Deko Barbara-Jessica Wedi (born 13 September 1992), professionally known as Rouge is a new school rapper, Hip-hop artist and author from Pretoria, South Africa.

Rouge a first generation South African, of Congolese heritage, was born and raised in Pretoria. She always dreamt of becoming a performer and started singing at the age of 6, songwriting at the age of 12 and rapping at the age of 19. She also took part in acting, public speaking and poetry, not knowing she was preparing herself for what was to come. In 2014 she completed a degree in Drama & Film at the University of Pretoria.

In December 2014, ROUGE released her debut single entitled ‘Party’ to critical acclaim, as it reached the #1 spot on the highly popular 5FM hip hop show ‘The Stir Up’. It also garnered attention on YaronaFM in Botswana, which saw the single being placed on high rotation on various radio stations across Africa. The song was also later play listed on the popular South African soap Rhythm City.

Her single ‘Mi Corazon’ meaning ‘My Love’ in Spanish, was released on 13 February 2015, just in time for Valentine’s Day; an expression of how she feels about the music industry. She talks about the love which he has for what she does and also demonstrates this through the lyrics in the single.

‘Output’ was ROUGE’s third single, in which she showcased that she is not just a rapper, but an all-round artist whilst displaying her vocal capabilities.

In late 2015, ROUGE also released ‘BUA’, featuring award winning hip hop artist Reason, who is known for his controversial lyricism. The theme of the single is based around being comfortable when speaking your mind, no matter how controversial the subject might be. ‘BUA’ received high rotation on various radio stations and also reached #3 on YFM’s Hot 99 Hip Hot chat, as well as #17 on their Top 40.

The same year, ROUGE was also featured on rapper "AKA"s Baddest Remix, alongside Fifi Cooper, Moozlie and Gigi Lamayne, a song they also performed at the prestigious MetroFM Awards in February 2016.

2016 saw ROUGE soar to new heights: She released two new singles, namely ‘Mbonga Zaka’ and ‘Sheba Ngwan O’, which was play listed and topping charts on all mayor radio stations across South Africa. She was featured on Locnville’s single ‘Taste The Weekend’ and released ‘Takeover’ with renowned South African DJ, Mark Stent.

ROUGE was also one of the opening acts for the Cassper Nyovest’s concert in October 2016, #FillUpOrlandoStadium.

She is currently working on her debut album titled "New Era Sessions" which will be released in 2017.
